Our HistoryThe predecessor of the current Prince Georges County Board of Trade was founded by a group of civic, business, farm, school and church personnel in 1949 to help guide and promote post World War II development in the county. Like all dynamic organizations, we have changed and evolved to meet the ever-changing issues, challenges and needs of Prince Georges County. Over the years, we have been active in creating public policy decisions through participation in boards, committees, commissions and task forces; through information dissemination in our monthly Tradewinds newsletter and in business meetings; and through interaction between members and decision-makers at all levels. We focus on small business issues, member education, growth and economic development, civic affairs, and involvement with other organizations on matters of common interest. Several distinguishing activities of the Board of Trade include sponsorship of a unique trade scholarship program, recognition of a Citizen of the Year, and a Small Business of the Year competition, an award open to any small business (not just for our members). Membership is at the personal, rather than organization, level which leads to opportunities to participate hands-on in all facets of our operations and to develop lasting business and personal relationships.
